Three corners at the end of the historic district in Redmond, Wash., come together to form The Triangle, a new LEED Gold apartment building. Architect Tiscareno Associates, Redmond, contrasted the classic, red-brick look of the district with a modern and bold design achieved in part with Citadel Architectural Product’s Envelope 2000® metal composite material (MCM) Reveal (RV) system.

According to Tiscareno Associates, the design team considered other metal wall panels before turning to MCM. Citadel was selected because the firm had just used it on another project, and the architects were pleased with the outcome. The firm notes that MCM is a durable product that will age well.

Exterior Finishes, Lake Stevens, Wash., installed the RV system in Arctic White (11,460 square feet), Charcoal Gray (7,200 square feet) and Sierra Tan (18,320 square feet). The company also installed 640 square feet of GlazeGuard®1000 WR+ in Charcoal Gray. The panels were sold by Element Architectural Products, Aurora,Ore. The metal panels add to the LEED Gold certification with a portion of the material coming from recycled content.

Envelope 2000 is a 4-mm-thick MCM with a durable, 0.105-inch thermoset phenolic resin core that provides an ultra-smooth substrate for the aluminum skin. Because the RV system is field-assembled, panels and extrusions can be onsite faster than shop-fabricated systems, saving time, labor and money. Customization is always an option, allowing designers to create unique textures and feels by varying the grid size or selecting multiple colors. GlazeGuard 1000 WR+ is installed in aluminum glazing or storefront channels (on setting blocks) and sealed using gaskets. No fasteners or adhesives are used in the installation of the panel.Typical applications include glazing infill, modesty screens, spandrel panels and railing inserts. As an alternative to glass, this panel offers an R-Value of 4.19 (EPS) and 6.13 (ISO).

Shaun Gallimore, multi-family operations manager with Exterior Finishes, says: “We have worked with Citadel several times in the past. The panels are a good product, price-point competitive and allow for a more custom look. The manufacturer provides top-of-the-line customer support, including onsite field support through the construction process. In this case, the installation was not complicated, and we were also able to install the Citadel panels at the Northeast rounded corner for a more custom look. The prefinished product looks amazing and will complement the ever-growing Redmond surroundings very well.”

The 195-unit apartment building has ground floor retail space and underground parking.Amenities include a courtyard deck, fitness center and clubroom.
